Xinachtli Rites of Passage Facilitator Certification + Mental Health First Aid Training

Xinachtli (Nahuatl for germinating seed) is a gender-responsive, culturally-based rites of passage philosophy, process, and curriculum that promotes healing, resilience, and leadership capacity of Chicana, Latina and Indigenous girls and gender expansive youth. The philosophy and curriculum supports the reframing of a new narrative of transformation healing and advocacy rooted in a gender, racial justice, anti-oppression framework. The Xinachtli curriculum provides a dialectic process of: • Reflexión (reflection) • Concientización (critical consciousness) • Creación (creation) • Acción (action)

All trained participants will be certified in the Xinachtli Rites of Passage curriculum. This 3 day training will support facilitators in their life-skills work with girls and gender expansive youth. The Xinachtli training prepares facilitators to provide a supportive process for young girls and gender expansive youth to develop a positive identity, self advocacy skills, and a leadership skills based on indigenous principals of the individual’s interconnectedness to the family, the community and the nation.

Also consider joining the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) suplemental training for May 10th.
MHFA teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among youth. You'll build skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to those who are struggling. You'll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

Suggested accommodations: We will be located in North East Los Angeles for the training. Downtown Hotels and Hotels in Pasadena will be fairly close to Highland Park. Here is document with some additional logistics for travel planning purposes.
